My Background Includes: A long history of working with public telecommunications organizations at the human side of complex technical projects -- as a science journalist/producer, as a researcher/evaluator, and as a project manager. My focus has always been on the human factors side of technological change management: building bridges between engineers and managers, technology providers and end-users, industry groups and government regulators.
Successful management of complex projects for public radio and television organizations, educational consortia, higher education institutions, and state regulatory agencies, governors commissions and legislative “blue ribbon commissions.” In these latter efforts, I have been responsible not just for project budgets, public presentations and events, but have managed highly sensitive political negotiations between interest groups (such as educators, legislators of both parties, cable and telephone industry leaders, union leaders and local government officials).
The creation of consortia efforts: most recently Wisconsin Public Television’s "Reforging/Evolving the Links” projects, which brought together university-based public television stations and their campus information technology and extension/outreach administrators to plan for the digital future of higher education’s public service media. I successfully took this project from “broad concept” to project outline and project results, including national symposia and the creation of a partnership between the lobbying organizations of the state universities and public television stations.
I am at the forefront of knowledge in current issues in digital media transport and management, including “High-Def Radio” initiatives and the Public Broadcasting Metadata Dictionary Project. I have presented at numerous national meetings, and have strong professional relationships with the technology staff at PBS, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Internet2, at many of the leading public radio and television stations and land grant universities. My most recent work involves creating “win-win” Wi-Max partnerships for educational institutions, communities and wireless carriers in the Educational Broadband Services (formerly ITFS) band. Go to:
